On the Toshiba TG01

European handheld users loathe Toshiba for its standfast refusal of releasing a Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade for its then-current e740 handheld, which would have urgently needed it due to the XSCALE CPU’s issues with WM2002. This forced the company out of the German handheld market almost completely, leaving them struggling along with a few low-end devices.

However, the boys want to get back in the game – their entire MWC booth was dedicated to the TG01:

Toshiba’s TG01 will become available in black and white, and is an extremely large and thin device. An XPERIA X1 has the same screen resolution, but looks tiny in comparison:

Toshiba unfortunately couldn’t resist the temptation to roll its own user interface. I am pretty sure that the Windows Mobile world doesn’t need another custom home screen, but post the picture below anyways:

A task manager is included to emphasize the device’s multitasking capabilities:

Which are unfortunately restricted due to extreme lack of RAM. My sample had a total of 133MB, with less than 50MB free after a reset:

The following mock-ups were exhibited as samples of possible future form factors:

BTW: my “press attaché” went batshit when he heard me remark the low amount of memory and my dislike for yet another home screen. Even though he remained professional, the stress he was suffering at this moment is clearly visible. This IMHO proves that Toshiba considers the TG01 a “make-or-break” device…

In the end, the TG01 left me impressed. Users who know what they are doing will definitely be able to work their way around the limited RAM – while this is an unfortunate limitation due to the fast processor, it nevertheless is manageable.

I personally think that potential troubles are not to be sought in the device design, but rather in the company. I have never seen a press guy as agitated/stressed out as our friend pictured above, which definitely isn’t a good sign…

Automatically Synchronize Windows Clock

Automatically Synchronize Windows ClockYou can synchronize your computer time automatically with internet standard time server. Normally this feature is enabled by default in Windows XP and Windows Vista. If not then you can enable it now.

For Windows XP, double click on the computer clock at the bottom right corner and go to “Internet Time” tab. Under “Date and Time Properties” windows, tick the check box labeled “Automatically synchronize with an internet time server”, and you can select the alternative time server using drop down list.

For Windows Vista, left click the computer clock at the bottom right and click the blue link “Change date and time settings…”.
Under “Internet Time” tab, click on the “Change settings…” button and then tick the check box labeled “Synchronize with an internet time server”.

Now, your computer will periodically update time with internet time server but you can force your computer also for immediate synchronization. For manual synchronizing click the “Update Now” button.

Another Tip on How To Speed Up Windows Vist

increase-speed-of-windows-vista-advanced-performanceHave you notice that your system is very slow with windows vista? If so, today tip is very useful for you to speed up your windows vista with only a few easy steps. There is a default setting in windows vista which is used to manage the cache writing on disk. By default windows enabled the write caching on disk but the advanced performance setting is disabled.

Below are the steps to enable the

advanced performance setting:

Speed Up Windows Vista
Firstly, right click your “My Computer” icon and click “manage”.

increase speed of windows vista
A windows will appear on the screen with title of “Computer Management”, now select the Device Manager option, then double-left-click the SATA Disk under the Disk Drives. And finally, check the boxes of “Enable write caching on the disk” and “Enable advanced performance”.
This option is only selectable on SATA hard disk, else if using PATA or IDE hard disk, you won’t see the options, or the settings are grayed out or disabled.

My advice to you:
As you can see in the description, “Recommended only for disks with a backup power supply. This setting further improve disk performance, but it also increases the risk of data loss if the disk loses power.” So, enabling of advanced performance will hold more writable data in the memory cache to further improve disk performance, you are advice to use this option only if your disks do have a backup power supply, such as system protected by UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) or notebook and laptop computer with charged cell battery pack to fall back. This configuration will increase the risk of data loss if the disk loses power.

How To Disable Startup Programs In Windows XP and Vista?

Many software today want to run some of their components at all times, whether the programs are being used or not. These components will be inserted intoWindows Startup System so that they can be run every time you turn on your computer without your permission. All these programs take up memory, CPU time, and other resources and can significantly slow up or even crash your system. These programs are one of computing’s big annoyances. In order to speed up computer, you must disallow unnecessary programs from running at startup.

How Can I Disable These Programs From Running At Startup?

There are many different ways to prevent programs from running at startup. Some common methods are listed below.

  • Method 1: Configuring Windows Startup Folders for Windows 95/98/Me/XP/Vista
  • You may find a number of program shortcuts if you go to (Start –> Programs –> Startup) or (Start –> All Programs –> Startup). Programs of these shortcuts will run at startup. Just delete the shortcuts that you don’t want to run at startup, based on your OS listed below:

    • Win9x/98/Me - C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
    • WinNT/2K - C:\Winnt\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
    • WinXP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
    • Method 2: Using System Configuration Utility (MSCONFIG)
    • For Windows Vista:
The easiest way to access MSCONFIG is by going to the “Start”, then type the msconfig and wait for a second for the windows to search for the utility, finally click on the MSCONFIG shown on top of the menu.

      vista-run-msconfig
      Windows Vista

For Windows XP and Other Windows
Access MSCONFIG by going to the Start –> Run, then typemsconfig and press enter.

      run-xp-msconfig
      Windows 95/98/Me/XP

      What Next?
Under the Startup tab there is a list of all the programs that start in the Windows Registry. Just uncheck the programs you don’t want to load and leave the rest alone. After you’ve made your selections, click Apply andOk.

      vista-msconfig
      Windows Vista
      xp-msconfig
      Windows 95/98/Me/XP

    My advice:
Some of the startup programs are important. If you are not sure, you better leave the item untouched, but you are free to experiment (you can always turn them on again). If you find the above instructions are too complicated, you should ask your friends who are good in computing to help you out. You can also leave your question in the comments section below and I’ll do my best to answer it for you.

I’ve did some research and and it seems like this problem is frequently happened. This issue can be caused by a few possibilities below.
1. Lack of sufficient memory.
2. Hard drive failure.
3. Heavy programs being run in the background.
4. Infections of spywares, worms, trojans, viruses or any other malwares.
5. Slow hardware that cannot sustain heavy applications.
